Implementing the Lean Culture at WEIR

  • The thesis research aims to highlight the different tools and techniques to create con-tinuous improvement in the company to move forward and be on the road of lean management which results in long term growth. The significant drivers for such an improve-ment lie in the culture of lean as a foundation and the techniques ignite it to reach the ultimate goal. In essence, employee engagement and their productivity are vital to drive the culture into the right direction of total lean implementation and business trans-formation. And this was tested in WEIR where the goal was to achieve a lean environment and constant continuous improvement to reach perfection. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to investigate some tools and techniques associated with lean manufacturing and waste elimination. The approach and methods are implemented in a real manufacturing environment where the production of pumps for the mineral in-dustry is done.
